Oscar de la Renta: His Legendary World of Style at SCAD

I am extremely excited about the current exhibit at SCAD Museum of Art.

Oscar de la Renta was absolutely my favorite designer. The way he designs clothes to flow with the shape of a woman’s body made him vital to design at a time when “heroine chic” and boyfriend jeans dominated the runway.

I am excited to be sketching the exhibit.

I contacted the gallery SCAD to see if I would be allowed to bring in a sketchbook – I don’t museum a lot. (The first exhibit that I had actually went to, outside of college, was the Andy Warhol’s Flowers exhibit at Cheekwood Botanical Gardens.) The Museum Coordinator responded very promptly letting me know that I was allowed to sketch the exhibit – the only restriction is that I can only use graphite. Of course, I’m perfectly fine with that. I’ll just have to make little color notes in the margins.

I’m planning my trip down to Savannah at the end of next month.

I absolutely cannot wait to see all of those gorgeous pieces in person. I might just spend a few days there, soaking it all in.

Have you seen it? Are you planning on going?
